Bio:
A band more apt to plod rather than plow, A Roman Holiday has never been much for tight executions. Forget about being able to play instruments; sometimes the drunken powers that be transform the act standing up to an arduous chore for A Roman Holiday. And while most musicians have some form of OCD meticulously guarding equipment like Gannon hoarding Princess Zelda, A Roman Holiday, however, often times scrambles to find working equipment where the resale value usually ends up reduced by the end of their set. They can be too quiet yet too loud at the same time as pounding drums can overshadow the strings and, yes, they can rock, but never overtly so. Standard preconceptions of how bands should operate can be put on the back burner when referring to A Roman Holiday. And it!"s for these reasons that A Roman Holiday is one of the best bands around today.

The expression A Diamond in the Rough does not come close to describing A Roman Holiday but the intent behind the expression holds sway. Words like sloppy and volatile accurately describe the Richmond trio (sometimes quartet) yet their charm lies in the band!"s ability to craft well-written songs. Seemingly simple at first, very detailed songs emerge where the fine lines support the full picture. The instrumentation is dependent on each other creating attractive aural stimuli. And they hold a fine accomplishment of being able to rock a horn section and not sound like a ska band.

A Roman Holiday's draws their music in a minimalist direction making the initial listen a little dismissive. Yet after a couple of listens, this indie-rock outfit seeps into your brain and individual aspects hum their way through your mouth and you begin to realize the glorious intention of their music. Basically, A Roman Holiday exists to create beautiful songs and to fuck with your head. Given the information, they shouldn"t be good but in reality, they are better than most bands found on critic's hand job of a "Best Picks" list.(Jeff Beyers)
